Hiking in Hocking Hills
My paternal grandparents lived in Southeastern Ohio. On one of our summer visits in the mid 1970s, we went to Hocking Hills for the day. After the long drive there, we had a picnic. I don't remember what we had, but I assume it was sandwiches and Bumble Bee Potato Chips. After we had finished our picnic and put everything away, we set out on one of the trails. My older brother, Ricky, ran up ahead, followed by my Dad and Grandfather. Mom, Grandma and myself followed at our own pace. The scenery was beautiful. Everything was so green and the trees towered over us. I don't know if I had ever seen a waterfall before or if this was my first time, but I do remember being fascinated by the one on the path we chose. What a wondrous sight to behold.. especially when you don't expect to see it! After looking at the waterfall for a little while.. Mom decided to head back towards the picnic area. Grandma and I walked a little further along the path and then we too headed back to wait for Daddy, Grandpa and Ricky. I don't remember anything else from this outing.. but to this day, I can still close my eyes and see my Grandmother and Mom walking with me up that hill and the waterfall that awaited us at the top.
