Entry for Wednesday October 17, 2007

The past several days have been quite busy.

Sunday we celebrated the birthday of a close family friend. Kaylan made Red Velvet Cake. The girls decorated the dining area with streamers. Dinner was at a local Chinese Restaurant, The Asian Pearl. We picked up Ice Cream on the way home. If you haven’t tried Blue Bell’s Anniversary Cake Ice Cream, you should. It is delicious!! Almond flavored Ice Cream, bits of white cake, ribbons of Cream Cheese Icing. Delicious!!

Monday (October 15, 2007) evening was spent at the Emergency Room with my mother. Her back was giving her so much pain, that she couldn’t sit or lay down without pain.

She went to work on Monday, and climbing the stairs to the office where she works, sitting in the Office chairs and then climbing back down those stairs is what she said triggered the Intense Pain. Also, she told me that while getting into her car, the seat was in the ‘recline’ position (my brother does that as he is really tall). Anyway, she didn’t notice the seat in this position and when she sat, she fell back, and felt her back ‘pop’.

 After a series of x-rays and scans, the doctor informed her that she has severe arthritis in her spine.  Mom was given a shot of Torodol and Rx for pain medication. Also, the doctor told Mom that she had quite a bit of stool left in her intestines, and she needed to have a good bowel movement. He gave her a suppository (duculox) and told to eat more fiber, and more fruits and to consume more liquids.  After leaving the hospital, Mom wanted to go to Wal-Mart (they are open 24 hours) to purchase a heating pad and some pillows (for positioning). After taking Mom home and getting her settled in, the girls and I arrived home around 5:30am. We slept until 2:30, when the ringing phone woke me.

The phone call was the PCA (patient care representative) from Children’s Hospital, calling to inform Krissie that a good friend of hers from Muscular Dystrophy Camp was in the hospital and had undergone surgery for a trach and a vent. Krissie called Megan and Jaclyn to inform them of the news, as they were good friends with his friends.
